Programs
of MCC
Massachusetts
Citizens for Children (MCC) operates through four primary
programs to improve the lives of Massachsuetts Children.
Prevent
Child Abuse Massachusetts
The mission of Prevent Child Abuse Massachusetts is to prevent
the abuse and neglect of our state's children. PCA works
to empower the public to take an informed and active role
in child abuse prevention. We are the state chapter of the
Prevent Child Abuse America, based in Chicago, formerly
the National Committee to Prevent Child Abuse.
Massachusetts
Kids Count
An important part of effecting change in the attitudes of
the public and the priorities of legislators is presenting
the facts about children and families. Through the Massachusetts
Kids Count Project, MCC provides documentation of the state
of our children, and uses this information to encourage
policymakers and the public alike to take action and help
improve children's lives.
Massachusetts
Campaign for Children
With a Campaign for Children membership of over 1600, MCC
has the ability to educate and mobilize a large constituency
of citizens who are concerned about the welfare of children
and families in our state. We provide citizens with an awareness
of the issues we are addressing, so they can speak with
an educated voice, and encourage citizens to express their
concerns to policymakers and legislators. With all of our
members working together toward a common goal, and speaking
with a common voice, we can accomplish more for the children
of our state than any of us could do alone.
Massachusetts
SBS Prevention Center
Since the early 1990s, MCC has been a leading spokesgroup
for Shaken Baby Syndrome (SBS) prevention. Under the
auspices of the new Massachusetts SBS Prevention Center,
MCC reaches hundreds of parents, caretakers, professionals
and the public through brochures and printed materials,
requests on MCC’s 800-CHILDREN line, media campaigns,
and comprehensive SBS prevention education programs.
Currently, MCC serves as Coordinator for The Central
Massachusetts SBS Prevention Campaign, which has implemented
an innovative SBS prevention pilot program in Worcester
County. The SBS Prevention Center stands ready to provide
technical assistance to other Massachusetts communities
interested in developing their own SBS prevention projects.
Massachusetts
Child Sexual Abuse Prevention Partnership
Massachusetts Citizens for Children is the lead agency
for the Massachusetts Child Sexual Abuse Prevention
Partnership collaboration of 23 state-level private
and public organizations that have come together to
address the complex problem of child
sexual abuse in our state. In 2002, after a competitive
process, the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention
(CDC) ranked Massachusetts' proposal first in the country
and selected the Partnership to pilot and evaluate
new strategies to engage adults and communities in
the fight to end child sexual abuse.
