Sell KidPins! Enthusiastic people needed to sell
these unique handmade pins at fairs and conferences, to
their colleagues at their workplace, or to friends and
neighbors. We sell KidPins to raise money to further our
child abuse prevention initiatives, and use them to raise
awareness, as each pin comes assembled with a card describing
the work of MCC and some facts about Massachusetts children.
This is a good project for church or community groups,
or for active individuals who know of local venues such
as craft fairs, community gatherings, or conferences on
children's or parenting issues.

Opportunities at Other Organizations:
The
Children's Trust Fund's mission is to prevent child
abuse and neglect by strengthening and supporting parents.
The agency provides parenting education and support, funding

a lending library of parenting education resources; sexual
assault and abduction prevention training for children,
providing elementary and pre-schools with free, extensive
training and materials to teach prevention skills; newborn
home visiting; and public awareness and education, providing
prevention information to the media, and producing a quarterly

GoodStart
Initiative, sponsored by the Massachusetts Society
for the Prevention of Cruelty to Children (MSPCC) is designed
to ensure that children grow up safe, healthy, and ready
for school. The basis of this program is the belief that
providing services early offers the most effective way
to strengthen families, enhance child development, and
promote safe and healthy homes. Offering a comprehensive
set of health, counseling, and family support services,
GoodStart addresses the needs of children from birth to
three years of age. MSPCC has several volunteer opportunities,
such as GoodStart parenting education, family support
services, advocacy, and research. For your convenience,
MSPCC has seven regional offices across the state. To
learn more about GoodStart, call 617-587-1500.
Parental
Stress Line operated by Parents' and Children's Services
of Boston provides free, confidential, round-the-clock
support to parents under stress with children of any age.
Many parents who call are lonely, have no one to turn
to, or are angry and afraid of losing control with their
children. Grandparents and other family members call for
support around child care and other issues. Friends, relatives
and neighbors concerned about other families call for
guidance. Volunteer counselors receive intensive training
and supervision to provide sympathetic and non-judgemental
support for callers. To get support from the Parental
Stress Line, call 1-800-632-8188. To volunteer your support
to parents and others in times of stress, please contact
the volunteer coordinator at 617-624-8186.
Parents
Helping Parents (PHP) is a self-help program for parents
who want to improve their relationships with their children.
PHP relies on specially trained volunteers from professional
health and human services to help guide discussions, suggest
referrals to other services, and provide assistance when
needed. This facilitator is teamed with a parent leader
from the group in a unique partnership. If you would like
to explore this volunteer role for yourself, or would
like to participate in PHP as a parent, please call 1-800-882-1250.
PHP meetings are held in 65 locations throughout the state,
with no membership fees. For more information visit the
PHP website at www.parentshelpingparents.org.
