Massachusetts Shaken Babies
Remembrance Quilt

ShakenBabyRemembranceQuilt_web

Families of shaken babies, in collaboration with MassKids produced this Shaken Baby Remembrance Quilt to honor infants in our state who have died or been injured due to shaking, a form of Abusive Head Trauma.  Dianne Judd of Lowell and owner of The Quilted Shamrock in Hudson, N.H. assisted several families in designing a square to honor their child and assembled the finished Quilt. Quilt Committee members included Bob Logan and Frank Bashore - grandfather and great grandfather of Baby Devin, Sheila Dempsey, Joanne True, and MassKids Executive Director Jetta Bernier.

To build pubic awareness about SBS prevention, MassKids will make this "traveling Quilt" available to hospitals, schools, libraries, malls, city halls, and other groups across the state.  Copies of our brochure "Infant Crying and Soothing: What you Need to Know to Keep Your Baby Safe" will be available for distribution to the public during the Quilt's showings. They will help parents and caregivers learn that when infant crying and fussiness lead to frustration, there are actions adults can take to prevent frustration from turning into anger and resulting in the injury or death of a child.
